All 10 Bosses in Chapter Order — Kill Tracker
Tick a boss off below and the tick saves in your browser automatically. Every row lists the chapter and landmark where the fight happens, the trophy it unlocks, and the verified counter-strategy.
| Boss | Chapter & Area | Trophy | Weakness & Strategy |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. General Lothaire, The Eagle Bearer | Ch. 1 Revival (Valley of Ashes — scripted loss), then Ch. 2 Regroup (Abandoned Church gate) | Torn Banner | Sweeps and thrusts with his mutated arm and shoots from behind. Most of his melee strings can be chain-parried with the Saber — fill the posture bar and execute. |
| 2. The Iron Marshall | Ch. 3 Rendezvous — Fallen Village | Ultima Ratio Regum | Slow heavy bruiser. Do not greed in melee: keep distance, ignite him with Fire Transmutation and focus firearm shots on his back weak spot. His weakened Remnants of the Iron Regiment appear as elites later. |
| 3. Sphinx, Devourer of the Unworthy | Ch. 4 Dark Descent — Caverns (fight teleports you to the Pyramids) | Not a Cat Person | Extremely fast with two health bars. Bring Stasis Transmutation to slow and fully freeze her; in phase two the arena drops plenty of ammo — burst her face weak spot with firearms. |
| 4. Slaughtermill | Ch. 5 Crime — Vale of Wrath | Quixotry | Gimmick colossus in the Curse-Rotted Greatwood mold. Phase 1: shoot the bulbous weak-sac clusters on its body. Phase 2: grapple-course underground, pull the blue Nepthoglobin nodes when prompted and dodge the tentacles and corpse mobs. |
| 5. Anna, The Bride Drowned in Tears | Ch. 6 Punishment (chapter opener) — Cursed Hollow | My Dying Bride | Fast cleaver duelist with low poise who summons shambling civilian packs. Clear the adds with Hand Grenades, then loop Fire Transmutation plus heavy attacks for near-permanent stagger. |
| 6. High Justicar Aurelius, Last of the Faithful | Ch. 7 Witch Hunt (chapter opener) — The Outskirts | True Oath | A mutated eternal-guardsman swordsman. Parry-trade him in human form with the Saber; the moment he pops a flask and grows the giant mutated arm, stop trading — dodge at range until the effect expires, then punish his recovery. |
| 7. Experiment 83 / Experiment 33 | Ch. 7 Witch Hunt (chapter ending) — The Outskirts, lighthouse basement while chasing Shrike | Lament of the Limbs | Multi-limbed bio-horror and firmly fire-weak. Circle the lighthouse pillars, drink Nepthoglobin Vials to keep spraying Fire Transmutation and stack burn while sniping the tumor weak spots from range. |
| 8. The Orphan | Ch. 8 Blasphemy — University (rotting laboratory) | Coup de Grâce | The arena is covered in poison vents. Equip the just-unlocked Shield Transmutation to fully block the gas and the wide sweeps; in phase two, throw Oil Grenades when the boss is near a wall and burn it down with Flaming Whetstones. |
| 9. Captain Raphael of the Nephtis Superioris | Ch. 9 In Ruins — University | Behemoth | Sword-and-gun human who drinks a healing flask mid-fight. Never play passive: keep Shield Transmutation up, block and reflect his bullets, and interrupt the flask the instant he reaches for it with a strike or grenade. |
| 10. Entity, Voice of the Void (Final Boss) | Ch. 11 Reflection — Caverns > Ancient Lair, stone door by the lantern | In His Own Image | A mirror-match finale that summons phantom versions of past enemies. Every phantom dies in one hit — clear them the second they appear, keep Shield Transmutation active and grind the boss down patiently. |
Boss Combat Basics: Parry, Posture & Weak Spots
Valor Mortis has no difficulty selector and no NPC summons — the game is balanced around one fixed ruleset for everyone. That makes the universal skill loop non-negotiable.
- Parry melee strings to fill the boss posture bar and trigger an execution — this is the main damage plan against every humanoid boss.
- Weak spots (back, face, tumors) take bonus firearm damage; swap to the right gun and transmutation per boss as listed above.
- Nepthoglobin (the purple meter) powers heavy attacks and transmutations — keep Nepthoglobin Vials for burn-heavy fights like Experiment 83.
- The Ferrofluid Flask is your heal; there is no ritual refill between attempts, so learn the fight rather than out-healing it.
- Stuck on a boss? Level the matching weapon or transmutation first — see the upgrade material tables on the Builds page.
Boss FAQ
Are there any optional or hidden bosses in Valor Mortis?
No. All 10 bosses are story-mandatory and fought in chapter order. After the Iron Marshall, weakened Remnants of the Iron Regiment reuse his moveset as elite enemies in later areas, but they are regular mobs, not bosses.
Which transmutations should I level for the boss route?
Fire for the Iron Marshall, Anna and Experiment 83; Stasis for the Sphinx (the fight is dramatically harder without freezing her); Shield for the Orphan, Captain Raphael and the final Entity. Save one Quintessential Transmutation Material so Shield can reach Level 5.
Can I refight bosses after the story?
After beating the Chapter 11 final boss you return to the last lantern and can fast-travel back into every region for cleanup, but story bosses stay defeated. New Game+ is planned for a later 2026 patch.
