Valor Mortis Has Exactly One Ending
Spoiler level: this page names the final boss, the final chapter and the post-credits state, but it does not describe plot beats or cutscene content.
The full-release build ships a single ending. PowerPyx's trophy roadmap is built around one playthrough, and the final story trophy, In His Own Image, comes from defeating Entity, Voice of the Void — there is no second ending trophy, no ending-gated item flag, and no verified hidden variant. Nothing you pick up, say or befriend reroutes the finale.
- Reach Chapter 11 Reflection and enter the Ancient Lair through the stone door by the lantern in the Caverns.
- Defeat Entity, Voice of the Void — a mirror-match finale that summons one-hit phantom versions of enemies you have already beaten; keep Shield Transmutation up and clear phantoms the moment they spawn.
- In His Own Image unlocks, the credits roll, and you are returned to the last lantern with every region open for free roam.
The Point of No Return: End of Chapter 9
Community guides agree on the cutoff: the lantern outside the Captain Raphael arena at the end of Chapter 9 In Ruins. Once you push past it into Chapter 10 Shackled (Napoleon's Prison), lantern fast travel stays locked until you have beaten the Entity — the endgame is a one-way stretch, not a branch.
- Finish any Chapter 1–8 side quests, Ambers and monster drawings you still want before resting at that lantern.
- Spend your upgrade materials freely before the finale, but keep one Quintessential Transmutation Material unspent if Shield is not Lv5 yet — Abyssal Eviction is the only missable trophy.
- Clear the Chapter 10 prison stretch thoroughly: community reporting indicates some Chapter 10 side content may not stay accessible after the ending.
- Nothing before the lantern is missable, and everything outside Chapter 10 reopens after the credits.
What Dialogue Choices and the Mice Actually Change
Choices in Valor Mortis are mechanical, not narrative forks. Per community reporting on the launch build, dialogue decisions and how you treat the Mice change tangible in-game benefits — they do not produce different ending cutscenes.
- Rewards: certain dialogue outcomes hand you items and resources you would otherwise have to find or buy.
- Shortcuts and help: goodwill you build up earlier can open extra routes and assistance, most visibly during the Chapter 10 prison escape.
- What they never change: which boss ends the game, the credits, or the trophy that marks the ending.
After the Credits: Lucjan & Free Roam
Once the ending plays out you are dropped back at the last lantern rather than into a menu. Talk to Lucjan after the ending — he is your post-game anchor — and from there lantern fast travel reaches every region again, so side quests, the 28 Ambers, the 17 monster drawings and the secret castle bonfire can all be finished at your own pace.
The one soft limit is the prison: Chapter 10 content is the stretch community guides flag as potentially locked after the ending. If your list still shows something unfinished there, the fix is a later New Game+ run rather than free roam.
New Game+ itself is not in the launch build. It is planned as a free update later in 2026 alongside the French voice-over — the same patch track covered on the Patch Notes page — and until it lands, a finished save stays finished.
Endings FAQ
How many endings does Valor Mortis have?
One. The launch build ends the same way for everyone: defeat Entity, Voice of the Void in Chapter 11 Reflection, earn In His Own Image, watch the credits. There is no good or bad variant and no ending selected by items, factions or dialogue.
I read about three endings called Duty, Truth and Ashes — is that real?
No. That three-ending write-up circulates on one wiki page and conflicts with the reputable sources we verified — PowerPyx's one-playthrough trophy roadmap has no ending-branch trophies, and community walkthroughs of the finale describe a single outcome. Treat Duty / Truth / Ashes as unverified fan fiction until an official source says otherwise; if a future patch adds endings, we will verify and update this page.
Is there a secret or true ending?
Nothing hidden has been verified. No reputable launch guide reports an alternate or secret finale, and no trophy in the 39-trophy list is tied to a second ending.
Do my dialogue choices matter at all?
Yes, mechanically. Choices and how you treat the Mice change rewards, shortcuts and help during the Chapter 10 prison escape — useful, but never a different ending.
Can I keep playing after the ending?
Yes. After the credits, talk to Lucjan and fast-travel from the last lantern into any region for cleanup. Only Chapter 10 prison content is reported as possibly locked after the ending, and New Game+ — planned as a free update later in 2026 — is the announced way to replay the story.
Which ending do I need for the Platinum?
There is only one, and you cannot miss it: finishing the story awards In His Own Image on every run. The only missable trophy in the game is Abyssal Eviction, which is about Shield Bash, not the ending — see the Trophy Roadmap.
