Fix: Black Screen After the Developer Logos

The launch-day PC build can hang on a black screen right after the logo sequence on some setups. The fix takes one keypress:

  1. The instant the screen goes black, press Alt + Enter to force windowed rendering — the main menu then loads normally.
  2. Once in the menu, open the display settings and lock the game to fullscreen or borderless fullscreen so the mode sticks.

Fix: Micro-Stutter & Parry Input Lag

First-person parry timing lives and dies by input latency. Four settings cover the verified fixes for launch-day stutter and shader-compilation hitches:

  • Install the game on an NVMe SSD — streaming hitches are the main source of exploration stutter.
  • Turn V-Sync off to cut input latency for parry windows.
  • Enable DLSS or FSR at the Quality preset.
  • Set Shadow Quality to Medium — the biggest cheap framerate win in the menu.

How to Force a Manual Save (There Is No Save Button)

Valor Mortis keeps a single autosave slot with no manual save option in the menu — but there is a reliable force-save, and it is precise down to your standing position:

  1. Stand anywhere safe (lantern checkpoints are the natural choice).
  2. Open the pause menu and choose Back to Menu.
  3. The game immediately writes your exact coordinates and state to the autosave — reload and you are standing exactly where you left.

Launch & Mechanics FAQ

Is Valor Mortis out, and on what platforms?

Yes — the full game released October 13, 2026 on PC (Steam), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for $39.99, developed by One More Level (Ghostrunner) and published by Lyrical Games. The September two-chapter demo closed on September 8.

Are there difficulty options?

No. The game ships with a single fixed difficulty and no easy mode, and there are no NPC summons — the intended tools are parries, posture-break executions, weak-spot shots and transmutation counters.

How many save slots are there?

One autosave slot. Use the Back to Menu trick above to force a save at your exact position whenever you want a safe checkpoint.

Is there fast travel?

Yes. Lanterns act as checkpoints and fast-travel points; after the Chapter 11 finale you can travel back into any region from the last lantern for cleanup.

Is there post-game free roam or New Game+?

Post-game free roam: yes, immediately after the finale. New Game+ is not in the launch build — it is planned for a later 2026 patch.

Who develops and publishes the game?

Developer: One More Level, the studio behind the Ghostrunner series. Publisher: Lyrical Games. Launch price $39.99 USD on all platforms.
